8 days after brain surgery, Dr. Kelly took out the 47 staples in my head. These were not stitches made of thread. Rather, they were metallic strips, much larger than paper staples. Amazingly, it did not hurt to have them removed. (I still winced in anticipation of pain, just in case.)
